ProcedureEdit

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for Community Broadcasting service License in person, the applicant has to visit the office of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA).
  2. The contact and address details of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa can be found in the following link: Link
  3. Visit the office of ICASA and obtain Form B to apply for Community Broadcasting Service License from the relevant department.
  4. You can also find the application form in page number 22 of the following document: Link
  5. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page, when you visit the office.
  6. Complete the form as required with relevant details under respective sections. After completing the application form, attach the required documents with the completed form.
  7. Then, proceed to submit it to the relevant authority at the office in person for further processes. Make the necessary payment as directed.
  8. After submission, the completed form and corresponding documents will be put into further verification and validation processes.
  9. Once all the processes got completed, the authorities will perform necessary actions for the license issuance process.

EligibilityEdit

  • Any non-profit organisation that wants to serve the broadcasting needs of a community is eligible to apply.
  • The organisation for which license is sought must have registered and run for a non-profit cause since a minimum period of two years prior to the application lodgement.

The license under this category can be granted for a maximum period of four years.

InstructionsEdit

  • For special event community sound licences for a period not exceeding 45 days, applicants are required to complete and submit to the Authority Form N, which can be found in page number 66 of the following document: Link
  • All broadcasting licence applications must include five hard copies, as well as an electronic copy of the application, and must be submitted to the registry.
