Apply by Mail:
- To Get Permit or License to Make and Register a Firearm, the applicant has to approach the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives link
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer. or it can be downloaded from the following link
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the necessary documents along with the application form to the completed mailing address.
- The mailing address is mentioned in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as per the authority’s request.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- Once the process gets completed, the officer will contact the applicant through email or phone.
- This entire process can be completed within 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- Multiple sales occur when a licensed dealer or pawnbroker sells or otherwise disposes of more than one semiautomatic rifle capable of accepting a detachable magazine and with a caliber greater than.22 (including.223/5.56 caliber) to an unlicensed person at the same time or within five consecutive business days.
- When a federal firearms licensee (FFL) sells multiple firearms to the same buyer within a particular period, the Gun Control Act (GCA) of 1968 mandates that the FFL send a report to ATF.
- The ATF investigates probable weapons trafficking cases based on information acquired from several sales transactions.
