Apply in person:
- To Apply for Guardianship, the applicant has to approach the local Council link
- NOTE: To check the address, the applicant has to enter the PIN code and click the “Find” button.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer or it can be downloaded from the following link,link,link
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee of £232 to the court. The applicant may be able to get help with court fees if on benefits or a low income.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- Next, within 10 days the applicant will receive the case number.
- The applicant has to attend the hearing along with the parents.
- Once the final hearing is completed, the court will decide if a special guardianship order is in the best interests of the child after looking at all the evidence and hearing from witnesses.
- The court will send a final order to the guardian and to the child’s parents.
- This entire process can be completed within 15-20 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

- The child has lived with you for 3 of the past 5 years
- The applicant have the agreement of all the people with parental responsibility for the child
- The applicant must have the agreement of the local council, if the child is in care
