Apply In-Peron.

  1. To apply for a Student-Pass the applicant has to visit 'Director of Citizenship and Immigration control Uganda website link
  2. Pick a form from the Director of citizenship and immigration control.
  3. Fill the application form and attach the required documents before submitting the same to the authority please check the documents that are required to apply the student pass which is also mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. You are required to submit the application form together with all the required documents for you to get approval to make payments in case the applicant is outside East Africa community.
  5. Once the application is submitted it will be studied by an Immigration Officer. Please note that during the approval process additional information may be required
  6. The receiving officers will check for discrepancies or ineligibility in the application documents. If a discrepancy that cannot be immediately corrected exists in any of the documents, the application and all the submitted documents will be returned to the applicant and should not be re-submitted until the discrepancy has been rectified corrected.
  7. If the receiving officers is satisfied that all the requirements have been met for the issue of a student pass and the prescribed application form has been completed and presented in the immigration Licensing(IL)Office,the applicant will be advised to pay the prescribed application fees, after which the student pass will be issued.
  8. After correcting the discrepancy the applicant can proceed to pay the non-refundable fee of $100 and attach the receipt as a proof of payment on the application form.(if coming outside East African Community)
  9. The processing time for application is within 21 working days, excluding the date of submission. Some applications may take longer time to process. The applicant may inquire about the application status using the email-Service.
  10. You will be required to carry your identification documents when collecting your new license.

Note:The applicant will need to apply at least 2 months and not more than 3 months before course begins.

  • The decision taken on the application will be sent electronically through the email provided by the applicant.
  • If approved,an approval letter will be sent as an attachment to the email provided.

Required DocumentsEdit

Primary & Secondary Schools

  • Obtain and fill student pass forms
  • Provide covering letter from school addressed to Commissioner Immigration Control Department
  • Attach copies of parents’ passports
  • Provide copy of parents’ immigration status e.g. work permit if parents are residents in Uganda

For applicants whose parents do not live/ work in Uganda, applicants should provide:

  • Letter from parents acknowledging relationship of the resident guardian and child/student in the country.
  • Consent / covering letter from guardian addressed to the Commissioner Immigration Control Department
  • Applicants whose parents do not live or work in Uganda a letter of consent from parents to the resident guardian stating relationship should be attached.
  • Immigration status of host/ guardian e.g. work permit or Uganda passport
  • Covering letter from school to immigration department indicating year of admission and duration of study.

Tertiary Institutions Applicant should:

  • fill student pass form
  • Provide covering letter from training institution addressed to Commissioner Immigration Control Department
  • Provide admission letter from training institution
  • Attach identification card issued by institution of learning
  • Students undertaking postgraduate programs, should provide copies of previous academic qualifications

InstructionsEdit

  • For new applicants, applications are to be submitted at least 2 months and not more than 6 months from the course commencement date.
  • Applicants are not required to be present in Uganda while their applications are being considered. Applicants are advised to apply for a Students Pass before arriving in Uganda as no extension of stay will be granted while the applications are under processing.
  • Applicants are advised to enter Uganda to complete the formalities for the issuance of a Students Pass only after their applications have been approved. They will be issued with Students Passes within one month from the course commencement date

  • Following is the procedure on how foreigners can apply for student pass that will allow them to remain in Uganda to pursue their full-time studies.

Information which might helpEdit

  • The student pass allows the holder to live and study in Uganda for a specified period of time. It’s always sponsored by an organization or school whose organizational code is mandatory.
  • This Pass does not allow gainful or voluntary employment in Uganda.
  • All East African community nationals studying of seeking to study in Uganda must obtain student passes from designated immigration offices at NO COST.
  • Applicants whose parents are resident in Uganda should provide their parents reference ID.
  • For minors whose parents do not live or work in Uganda a letter of consent from parents to the resident guardian stating relationship should be attached.
  • Students applying for the first time from outside Uganda,attach a copy of Identity card from the previous school.
  • Students undertaking post graduate programs should provide certified copies of previous academic qualifications.
  • For students undertaking research a recommendation from national council for science and technology (UNCST)must be attached.
  • Any foreign national intending to enter into Uganda for purposes of study should:
    • Obtain Uganda visa (if visa prone) to facilitate his /her entry into the country.(Uganda visas may be obtained at Uganda missions abroad or on arrival at the country’s ports of entry)
    • Enter into Uganda from and through only authorized ports of entry.
    • Present valid passport to the Immigration officer at port of entry.
    • Declare purpose of entry into Uganda and intended institution of training.
    • Proceed to designated immigration office after entry and obtain student pass for study in Uganda.

NOTE:

  • All immigrants in Uganda should respect and oblige with national immigration laws,guidelines and formalities.
  • Visas & Student passes do not permit gainful or voluntary employment in Uganda.
  • All East African Community nationals studying or seeking to study in Uganda,must obtain student passes from designated immigration offices.
  • Student Passes for East Africa Community nationals are issued at NO COST.Other nationals should pay the fees indicated in the bank payment assessment form.
  • Study must be undertaken from only approved and licensed training establishments.
