Apply In Person

  1. To Apply for Vehicle Log Book when Owner is Dead, the applicant has to approach the Uganda Revenue Department link
  2. If the deceased owner did not leave a will, the applicant might need to obtain a letter of administration or succession certificate from the High Court. This document grants legal authority to handle the estate of the deceased, including transferring ownership of assets like vehicles.
  3. Prepare an affidavit or statutory declaration affirming the relationship between the deceased owner and the new owner, especially if transferring ownership to a family member. This document should be signed by a commissioner for oaths.
  4. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
  5. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  6. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  7. The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
  8. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  9. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  10. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  11. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
  12. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  13. Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
  14. In some cases, the vehicle might need to undergo an inspection to verify its condition and confirm that it matches the details in the log book.
  15. Once the ownership transfer is approved, the applicant will receive the new vehicle log book with the updated owner's information.
  16. This entire process can be completed within 2 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
