Apply In-Person

• To apply for Temporary vehicle permit in Tripura the applicant has to approach the RTO office or permit issuing state/regional transport authorities of the area.

• You will have to submit Application in Form P. Tem. A to permit authority.

Eligibility

For obtaining temporary permits the maximum age of a particular vehicle should not exceed 12 years. However, maximum age in case of a multi-axle vehicle should not exceed 15 years.

Fees

• Fees for Temporary Permits, their renewal and endorsement
  
• For first three days Rs. 360.00
  
• After first three days, till end of week
  Rs. 360.00
  
• After first week, for next week, or part there of Rs. 360.00
  
• Change of vehicle type as specified in the permit Rs. 220.00

3. Registration mark and year of manufacture and date of registration of the motor vehicle.

6. Permit number, the authority which has issued the permit and date of issue and date of expiry of the permit.
   
7. Unladen weight of the Motor vehicle
   
8. Gross vehicle weight of the Motor vehicle
   
9. Pay load of the motor vehicle (seating capacity in the case of tourist vehicle).
   
10. Period for which the authorization is sought for.
    
    

Need for the Document

A temporary permit is issued by STA under Section 87 of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 to transport vehicle for a limited period, enabling the vehicle to go outside the state for the following reasons:

1. For the conveyance of passengers on special occasions such as to and from fairs and religious gatherings, or
   
2. For the purposes of a seasonal business, or
   
3. To meet a particular temporary need, or Pending decision on an application for the renewal of a permit.

Q. What is a permit?
Ans: Any vehicle which is to be used for carrying goods or passengers for Commercial purpose essentially requires the permission (permit) of State Govt. under the provisions of M.V. Act, 1988 and rules framed there under. Permits are issued by State Transport authorities to control and to regulate operation of commercial vehicles.

Q. What is the difference between State and National Permit?

Ans: With State permit one can operate in the respective state only for which you have taken the permission and with national permit one can operate in whole country.

Q. Who is eligible for Permits?

Ans: Any registered owner of a transport vehicle can apply for the "Permit". However there are restrictions and permits are made available only after notification of Government.

Q. What are different types of permits available?

Ans: Six types of permits are functional in India:

1. Stage Carriage Permit
   
2. Contract Carriage Permit
   
3. All India Tourist Vehicle Permit
   
4. Private Service Vehicle Permit
   
5. Goods carriage Permit
   
6. National Permit Two other Permits (for short time duration):
   

(a) Temporary Permit

(b) Special Permit

Q. When can permits be applied ?

Ans: Normally permits can be applied any time. However the stage carriage permits are only issued at the time of notification as per policy. Further Supreme Courts direction for switching over to CNG made of fuel have also to be complied with at the time of time (or renewal) of permits.

Q. Who enforces the permit condition?

Ans: The enforcement wing of Transport Department inspect the permit conditions.

Q. What is the action taken against violation of permit conditions ?

Ans: Action is taken by State Transport Authority (STA) against these offenders Under Section 86 of M.V. Act for suspension/cancellation of permits.
