Procedure

Step – 1 Course

1. To Register as a Court Reporter License or Certification, the applicant has to approach the National Court Reporters Association link United States Court link
   • NOTE: Search by address, city, state, or ZIP Code and click the “Location” button.
2. Enroll in a court reporting program accredited by the NCRA. These programs are available at various educational institutions and can be completed in different formats, including in-person, online, or a combination of both.
3. Throughout your court reporting program, you will undergo training to develop skills in stenography, real-time reporting, and transcription.
4. Regular practice is crucial to achieve accuracy and speed.
5. Complete your court reporting program and obtain your degree or diploma.

Step – 2 Membership

1. Become a member of the National Court Reporters Association. Membership provides access to resources, networking opportunities, and support during the certification process.
2. To join the membership, the applicant has to use the following link
3. The applicant has to select the course, duration, and fee details.
4. If the applicant is a new user, the applicant has to click the “Create an account”.
5. Enter the registration details with the captcha code and click “Create New Account and Sign In”.
6. Now sign in with NCRA ID and password and click the “Sign In” option.
7. The applicant has to select the form from the menu list.
8. Enter all the details in the application form.
9. And upload all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
10. Pay the prescribed amount fee in online mode.
11. Once completed with all the details click the “Submit” button.
12. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
13. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
14. This exam assesses your skills in stenography, speed, and accuracy. Some states may also have additional certification requirements beyond the RPR.
15. Successfully pass the RPR examination to earn your certification. After becoming certified, you may use the "RPR" designation to indicate your credentials.
16. Maintain your certification by fulfilling continuing education requirements, which vary by certifying organizations and state regulations. This ensures that you stay up-to-date with advancements in the field and maintain your skills.
17. This entire process can be completed within 4 - 5 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.
