Procedure

A ration card/Smart ration card needs to be cancelled in order to obtain Surrender Certificate so that consumer can apply for new one under certain circumstances like marriage, relocation, transfer etc.
Apply In-Person

1. In order to cancel ration card, please apply with ration shop/office of your area OR the concerned office as advised by the ration office/shop.

3. Please go to the respective office.
4. Applicant shall obtain the form from the respective office (please pay for the form if required) Or a written/electronically typed application on A4 plain sheet as advised shall be used Or download from the following link: Form Link.
5. Please submit the completed cancellation application, original ration card along with required documents to the respective authority.
6. Authorities will do the due diligence of the submitted application and documents. They will verify with their records.
7. Please follow the authorities guidelines for further processing.
8. Upon satisfactory results, consumer is provided with a cancellation certificate on the same day or as notified.

Through Meeseva centre

1. Applicant shall approach the meeseva centre to apply.
2. Link for contact. Link please select the menu “Meeseva Centres” on the left part of the screen and select the sub option “Authorised service provider” sub option to get next page for list of service provider.
3. Go to the service centre.
4. Obtain “Application for Issuance” form under police department from the respective counter or write in a paper to apply Or download from the following link: Form Link.
5. Please complete the application form and attach the required documents and submit it to the operator.
6. The submitted application will be processed by the operator. Applicant will be provided with transaction id. This will be useful to track the status of application.
7. This application will be processed further by the respective department.
8. Applicant gets notification from the department. Please follow the notification and department guidelines to complete the process and obtain surrender certificate.

Eligibility

• A valid ration card holder.

Fees

• Fee information can be obtained directly from the respective office while applying.

Validity

• Cancelled or submitted ration card is no longer valid.
• Usually Family identity card is valid for lifetime and will be renewed in 5 years or based on announcement.

Need for the Document

• For implementation of the Targeted Public Distribution System(TPDS), Ration Card is being issued to all the heads of families, with details about family members included in the card. Based on their economic condition, people can buy goods like food grains, sugar and kerosene with the help of their ration cards.
• If a consumer needs to submit or cancel his/her ration card for applying new one at the place where he/she got transferred.
• Surrender certificate is required from the old ration shop to apply with the ration department in the new area.
