Apply In Person:
Registration for Student (Locally Trained Nurse)

  1. Upon passing the Tanzania Nurses and Midwives Council National Examination, successful candidates are required to apply for registration and licensing after the release of the results with the Tanzania Nurses and Midwives Council – TNMC Office TNMC Contact Details
    • Applicants should refer to the “Eligibility” section of this page to confirm eligibility and contact the Council Office to begin the registration process.
  2. Nurses/midwives present to the Nurses Council offices with the Clearance letter from the training institution to indicate that they have completed their training period and contract. The TNMC-Registry office shall confirm the candidate who has passed the examination by comparing it with the pass list.
  3. The applicant is issued with a Registration Form, carefully completing the forms with appropriate information under relevant sections, once completed applicant should attest their signature under the declaration section.
  4. Attach all the relevant supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section below, before submitting the complete dossier for verification and processing.
  5. Upon receipt of the application, the registrar shall forward all received registration files for assessment and processing. The registrar will not take responsibility for an incomplete application and shall be denied
  6. All application forms will be reviewed by the Council-appointed registration Committee within four (4 ) weeks of submission but may depend on the volume of applications being reviewed by the Council at the said time. The Council will endeavor, however, to inform the applicant if there is a delay in the review process beyond this time period.
  7. Upon being satisfied with the information provided, candidates will be invited for an oral interview by the Registration and Licensing Committee. The applicant will be required to Schedule an interview for Registration/ Enrollment as Nurses or Midwife with the council. The interview schedule booking list will be uploaded on the council website.
  8. Candidates are required to endeavor and come on the appointed date; candidates whose names do not appear on the list should wait for the next appointment list to be released by the council.
  9. Based on the results of the oral interview, successful candidates will be informed and requested to make payment for the Registration/Licensing fees which, dependent on the category of the nurse, within 72 hours of approval. Please refer to ththis page’s “Fees” section r more information.
  10. The committee shall, in the case of refusal of registration, give a reasoned decision and inform the applicant of his right of appeal.
  11. The applicant will be notified to collect his Registration Certificates, Practicing license, Badge, and a Continuous Professional Development logbook, via text or phone call. One is required to bring proof of identification when collecting the documents.


Registration of Foreign-Trained Nurses and Midwives (Temporary)

  1. Foreign Trained Profession health practitioners are required to be registered and licensed with the Nursing Board for them to be able to practice; he/she is required to show that they have attained the required competency by the Council standards.
    • Applicants should refer to the “Eligibility” section of this page to confirm eligibility and contact the Council to begin the registration process.
  2. Applicants will be required to collect and complete the Provisional Registration form, issued at the Council Regional offices or directly download it via this link Registration Form for Foreign Trained Nurses/Midwives
  3. Upon obtaining the registration form, carefully complete the forms with appropriate information under relevant sections, once completed applicant should attest their signature under the declaration section.
  4. Attach all the relevant supporting documentation as listed under the “Required Documents” section below, before submitting the complete dossier for verification and processing to the Nursing and Midwifery Council Registry Office
  5. Upon receipt of the complete registration dossier, the Registrar will check the documents for completeness and authenticity. If everything is in the order he/she shall forward all applications to the Registration and Licensing committee. which shall then verify the applicant's qualifications with the relevant training school and board of nursing/midwifery from the respective country.
  6. Please note; the application shall also be accompanied by all applicable fees and should be deposited as prescribed by the Council and proof of payment shared with the Council office.
  7. Upon being satisfied with the information provided by the respective institution, candidates will be invited for an oral interview by the Registration and Licensing Committee. Based on the results of the oral interview, successful candidates may be invited to sit a written exam, the examination is organized by the Council.
  8. Upon passing the exams, the applicant will be required to undergo a practical orientation program (clinical placement) in a Teaching, Regional, or any hospital accredited by the Ministry of Health/Council to acquaint themselves with healthcare systems in Tanzania.
  9. The Health Profession will be registered as a Temporary Nurse/ midwife with the Council and will be issued a Temporary Registration Certificate, practicing license, Badge, and a Continuous Professional Development logbook.
  10. The applicant will be notified to collect Authorization documents via text or phone call. One is required to bring proof of identification when collecting the documents.
  11. The foreign Nurses/midwives will be required to serve mandatory service years. After a satisfactory service in Tanzania, they are transferred from the temporary register to the Main register.


Apply Online:
Step 1: Register with the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC) Portal:

  1. Using a browser, registered Nurses/midwives with the Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC) should browse the TNMC Website.
  2. Click on the “Apply Now” tab under the Online Services option, and read the instruction carefully, if already registered click on the “Log In” tab and log in to the portal using your (Email/ Password).
  3. If not yet registered click on the “Register Here” hyperlink, then click on “Apply Now” under the “ Application for Temporary Registration” and then click on the “Proceed” tab. User will be navigated to the “Registration Form” and accurately fill out the following sections;
    • Personal Information Section; please fill in the names as they read in the practice license, enter the date of birth exactly as it appears on your birth certificate then click on the “Next” tab.
    • License Information Section; Enter the License number and then click on the “Verify” Tab, inputted license number is then verified by the system, if found click on the” Next” Tab.
      • Where the License number is not the same as the registrant details. Click “OK” then adjust no review.
    • Contact Information Section: Enter the phone numbers you are available at all times, and other Contact information as requested, then click on the “Next” tab.
    • Login Information section: Enter your email address and Password twice before clicking on the “Submit” tab. To Complete the Initial Registration.
      • While imputing the password please consider the example given on the site as a guideline.
  4. After submitting the portal registration request, the system will take you to a form where you will fill in the Email and Password you registered.

Step 2: Temporary Registration Application Process.

  1. Once logged on to the portal, the user should note the application requirements before proceeding with the registration process.
  2. Fill all mandatory fields under all sections, upload all the supporting documentation as listed on the site, then proceed and make the payment for the registration and licensing fees, and share the proof payment with the council before submitting the application for assessment.

Step 3: Assessment/ reviewing and issue of the Registration Documents

Please Note:

  • Any applicant for a practicing nursing license, who is aggrieved by any decision of the Council to refuse to issue the license or to specify any condition therein may appeal against that decision to the Minister in writing and shall be delivered to the Minister not later than 30 days immediately after the day, on which the decision complained of was communicated to the applicant.

EligibilityEdit

  • To be of good reputation and commendable conduct.
  • To have never been sentenced in a felony or misdemeanor (for a custodial penalty in a crime involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, unless rehabilitated in either case). In short, not to have a criminal record.
  • To have attained one of the following academic degrees:
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing from one of Tanzania’s high institutes, or an equivalent degree elsewhere than in Tanzania, which the Council recognizes as equivalent to the qualification by examination required by the Council.
  • A Diploma from a healthcare institute affiliated with the Ministry of Health/Council(nursing division) or an equivalent degree.

Temporary Registration fees are as follows:

  • Nurse staying in Tanzania for a period of not more than 20 days - Tshs 230,000
  • Nurse staying in Tanzania for a period of not more than 3 months - Tshs 350,000
  • Nurse staying in Tanzania for a period of more than 3 months - Tshs 500,000



ValidityEdit

  • The validity of the license/ registration certificate shall be mentioned on the document and shall be subjected to renewal and payment of an annual practice fee, this should be submitted on time before the lapse of the current license, to allow enough time for the renewal due process to be completed.
