Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. Applicant who would like to apply for Public Special Motorcycle (Boda-Boda) PSV License in Ghana should contact the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) in Ghana. contact Link
2. Applicant has to approach the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority Head Office in Ghana and applicant can get their application form.
3. Applicant must fill the all information in the application form.
4. The applicant has to make sure that he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful and they can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page.
5. Please make sure sure that the applicant has the pay the fees that are listed down in the “Fees” section of this page.
6. Attach all the required documents with the application form and submit them to the Secretary of the Board.
7. Then, the officials will proceed to perform the internal processes with respect to the applicant’s request.
8. Initially, the applicant’s attached documents and application form will be checked for sufficiency and appropriateness.
9. Then, the Board will verify whether the Dealership site adheres to the relevant requirements and regulations.
10. If found sufficient, further necessary tasks will be accomplished by the concerned officials for the issuance of license.
11. Once all the tasks and processes are over, applicant will be intimated to collect the license through any applicable means.
12. The processing time for this procedure is 2 days.

Eligibility

• Any person with private motorcycles and wishes to carry passengers on Boda-Boda with a charge in Ghana is eligible for this Licence.

Fees

• Processing fees for this procedure is 10,000 GHS.

• Validity period is 1 year.

Need for the Document

• Motorcycle taxis (boda-bodas) cannot operate in Ghana without a special passenger service vehicle (PSV) licence.

• Boda-Boda services are chaotic (to the extent that they are often seen as a menace), due to a lack of visible enforcement of operating rules and good standards of service provision.
• Lack of regulation of the sector makes it difficult to control the operations, that is, reduce bad behaviour of Boda-Bodas, accidents and decrease the influx of unlicensed drivers.
• Despite being viewed by many as a menace, people use the Boda-Boda services and ride on them since they offer unique services.
• Operators and passengers usually do not have medical insurance. Insurance companies regard them as high risk and are reluctant to insure the operators and their passengers.
