Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To apply for press card for foreign journalists, the applicant has to visit the Ministry of information, Communication and Information Technology, Information Service Department contact link
2. Applicant should provide all the information that is requested in the application form.
3. Applicant should make sure to carry both photocopies and originals of all the documents that are needed for completing this procedure.
4. Documents that are needed for completing this procedure are mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. Applicant must attach both photocopies and originals of documents (whichever is necessary) along with the application form before submitting it at the office.
6. Fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority’s request.
7. If all these procedures were followed properly by the applicant, the press card will be provided within 1 month.
8. If there is no information regarding the press card is provided within 1 month, the applicant can visit the office to know the status of their application.

NOTE:
The form should be completed by all foreign companies, groups, or individuals who are seeking permission for undertaking of assignments as a Journalist/Photographer/Film Producers/media researchers and book writers in Tanzania. They must also attach a synopsis or script when forwarding their applications. All applicants are advised to submit this form at least one month before the commencing date of the assignment.

• Any foreign journalist who is willing to work as a journalist in Tanzania is eligible for this procedure.

• Fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority’s request.

• Press Card is valid for 5 years.

Need for the Document

• The Press card is necessary for a foreign journalist legally for taking pictures for newspapers or publishing any stuff as a journalist in Tanzania.

Information which might help

• Permit will be issued only after payment is received.
• Permit is valid for a maximum of three months only.
• Permit is valid only in Tanzania Mainland, not in Zanzibar.
• Permit is obtained in Dar es Salaam only.
