Apply Online
- Click the link to start your application - Internet Application
- Select your place of domicile and enter your e-mail address. Enter the code displayed on the screen. This code is required for security reasons.
- An e-mail will be sent to you with a link to enter your personal data.
- Enter the data relevant to your application. If possible, keep your current passport and ID card available for consultation. Once you have completed your application, you may place another application for a further family member (your address and family name will automatically appear in this application), the same e-mail address will be used for communication. After you have submitted your application, you will receive an e-mail acknowledging the successful registration.
- Once your application has been verified, you will receive a further e-mail inviting you to make an appointment to provide your biometric data. This consists of a photograph, a signature and fingerprints (for the passport only).
If you are outside Switzerland
You may use the link provided under "Office Locations & Contacts" to get in touch with the nearest Swiss embassy or consulate, the office will be able to assist you in renewing your passport.
You may also complete an application online. If you are submitting an application online select Abroad when you reach the question about your place of domicile. After you have submitted your application you will then have to go to your nearest embassy or consulate in person to have your biometric data recorded.

You can renew your passport by internet or phone.
To apply online, you just need a computer with an internet connection and a reliable email address. Simply follow the instructions on how you should complete the form. You will then get an email inviting you to a personal interview (to record your data for a passport and/or identity card).
Note: All cantons provide an online application service.
