ProcedureEdit

  1. Present a proof of identification and provide authorities an address to which the document can be sent.
  2. If you are ordering a birth certificate for somebody else, you should have a power of attorney and a copy of the persons piece of identification. A power of attorney is not necessary if you are getting a birth certificate for your children under the age of 18.
  3. Pay all necessary fees.

Need for the DocumentEdit

A Birth Certificate states the name and sex of a person, it also indicate the time and place of birth, it is issued after you have registered the birth of a child and may be obtained from the civil registry office.

You may need to present your birth certificate for different reasons:

  • when getting married, and in cases of naturalisation, adoption and acknowledging paternity
  • when crossing a border, upon request of the border authorities
  • receiving family allowance from your employer
  • to enrol in a school
  • at the request of the civil authorities in your home country, if you are a foreign national born in Switzerland.
