ProcedureEdit

  1. Complete the form Application for alien's passport and temporary alien's passport, no. 157011. To download the form, click here: http://www.migrationsverket.se/download/18.5973fd1412535304f668000100/fp_157011_en.pdf.
  2. Apply in person at any of the Swedish Migration Board permit units by submitting your completed application form. If you wish to apply for a passport in Solna or Norrkping, you must book an appointment in advance.
  3. Submit other required documents.
  4. Have your photograph and fingerprints taken.
  5. After submitting your application and it is considered, the Swedish Migration Board will obtain information from the police criminal records.
  6. Pay the fee upon collecting the travel document.

EligibilityEdit

To be eligible for an alien passport:

  • you must be unable to obtain a passport from your country of origin.
  • you got a residence permit on grounds of protection.
  • For ages under 18, a parental or guardian consent is required.

ValidityEdit

An alien's passport is valid for five years and cannot be extended. If you want to extend your residence permit and have not obtained another passport, you should apply for a new alien's passport at the same time.

InstructionsEdit

  • All Swedish passport applicants (including children and adolescents) must apply personally at the police passport offices.
  • Photographs of the applicants will be taken at the office. There's no need to bring a photo.
  • For applicants who are under 18 years old, a written consent from their guardians is required.
  • The applicant must in first place pay a fee when you apply. In second place you pay to the Migration Board's bank giro account 5223-6965. IBAN account in these cases is SE8112000000012810106886 and the BIC/SWIFT code is DABASESX (Danske Bank). You have to pay the fee in order for the Migration Board to handle your application.

An Alien Passport is a travel document issued by the Swedish Migration Board that allows you to travel to all countries except your home country if you got a residence permit on grounds of protection. It is issued to those who cannot acquire a passport but you need to have one. However, the country you plan to travel to may require an entry visa for citizens from certain countries.
