Apply In-Person:

  1. To report Advance Fee Fraud Scam Letters and Lottery Scams in person, the person concerned has to visit the Interpol section of the South African Police Service.

  3. Visit the office of Interpol and enquire the relevant official about the process for reporting Advance Fee Fraud Scam Letters and Lottery Scams.
  4. Do as instructed by the official and complete the required format of application (if any). Submit the required documents demanded by the official.
  5. Once you complete the necessary format and submit the required documents, your request will be processed by the Interpol along with the Commercial Crime Unit of SAPS.
  6. After the examination of the documents submitted, the Commercial Crime Unit of SAPS will take necessary proceedings for the matter concerned.



Apply through Fax

  1. To report Advance Fee Fraud Scam Letters and Lottery Scams through fax, the person concerned should send all the corresponding documents to the fax number of Superintendent Anso van Deventer in the SAPS office.

  3. Find the fax number as applicable to you and start the process to send the documents to that number.
  4. Compile all the documents that are received as a scam like scam letters and all the corresponding information together.
  5. Also, state whether there has been "No Financial Loss" or "Financial Loss" on the documents received.
  6. Also attach documents for your contact details with the correspondence documents and send it by fax to the relevant authority or police station.
  7. After receipt of the relevant documents, proper examination will take place and once examined the relevant authority will start the investigation process.

  • Any foreign citizen living in South Africa or a resident can also apply.
  • Any person other than the one, who received the scam, can also apply on their behalf.

InstructionsEdit

  • Foreign citizens or residents are advised to apply through fax at any nearest South African High Commission/Embassy/Consulate-General or Superintendent Anso van Deventer in the SAPS office.
  • Progress reports will not be submitted to individuals where there has been no financial loss. However, it is important that the South African Police Service still be furnished with copies of the "419" scam letters for inclusion in their database.
