Apply In-Person:
- To Registration of a Political Party in a Legal Gazette, the applicant must go to the Electoral Commission of South Africa’s (IEC) office in the respective province. Contact Link
- The application form must be obtained from the authorities at the Electoral Commission office, or else it should be downloaded from the website. Application Form Link
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The application form along with the required documents should be submitted to the respective authorities at the Electoral Commission’s Office.
- Then the application form will be verified by the officials. If the details are legitimate, then the party will be registered in the gazette by the officials.
- The fee details for the registration are given in the “Fees” section of this page.
- The processing time for the registration process will be intimated to the applicant while submitting the application.
- Note: There are four different types of Political Party registration available, namely,
- National Level Registration
- Provincial Level Registration
- District Level Registration
- Metropolitan Level Registration

For National Level Registration:
- A High-resolution party logo or symbol in colour
- A copy of the party's constitution;
- A Deed of Foundation signed by 1000 registered voters who support the founding of the party
- A hard copy of the Government Gazette in which your notice appears
For Provincial Level Registration:
- A High-resolution party logo or symbol in colour
- A copy of the party's constitution
- A Deed of Foundation signed by 500 registered voters who support the founding of the party
- A hard copy of the Government Gazette in which your notice appears
For Metropolitan or District Level Registration:
- A High-resolution party logo or symbol in colour
- A copy of the party's constitution
- A Deed of Foundation signed by 300 registered voters who support the founding of the party
- A hard copy of the notice published in the local newspaper

The eligibility criteria for National Level Registration:
- The political parties must be supported and signed by 1000 registered voters in the Deed of Foundation, and the party must have a name to the party for the registration.
Provisional Level Registration:
- The political parties must be supported and signed by 500 registered voters in the Deed of Foundation, and the party must have a name to the party for the registration.
Metropolitan or District Level Registration:
- The political parties must be supported and signed by 300 registered voters in the Deed of Foundation, and the party must have a name to the party for the registration.
FeesEdit
- For National Level, the Registration Fee: R5000
- For Provincial Level, the Registration Fee: R3000
- For Metropolitan or District Level, the Registration Fee: R2000
ValidityEdit
- The validity of the political party registration will be mentioned in the registration certificate issued to the political party.

- By completing the registration, does not give qualification for the party to contest an election.
- The registered political party will have to meet the eligibility requirements to contest in any of the SA’s election. (Both the proportional representative (party list) and ward elections)

- Abbreviated name, if any, of the party (The abbreviation name may not consist of more than eight letters)

Need for the DocumentEdit
- The registration of the political party is a necessity to contest in any kind of election conducted in South Africa. Without registering the political party, the team cannot participate in the election.
Information which might helpEdit
- The name, abbreviation and logo as chosen and registered will appear on the ballot paper for the election the party elects to contest.
Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
