Apply In-Person:
- To Obtain Military Exemption Certificate, the applicant must go to the Department of Defence Republic of South Africa’s office. Contact Link
- Before applying for exemption certificate, the applicant must opt the “Discharge Certificate” from the South African Defence Force (SADF) department.
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant must submit a request letter to the SADF/SANDF department stating the reason for the need of Military Exemption Certificate.
- The application request will be forwarded to the HR department in the SADF/SANDF office.
- After verifying the service register and the documents, the HR department authorities will issue the “Military Exemption Certificate” to the applicant.
- The fee details to obtain the “Military Exemption Certificate” will be intimated to the applicant while applying.
- The process to obtain the “Military Exemption Certificate” will take approximately 2-3 months.
- Note: If the applicant processes the application through the “documentation experts”, then the process of getting the “Military Exemption Certificate” will only take up to 2-3 weeks of time.

- If the applicant has given an exemption to military service, or simply qualified being one of those who chose not enter the army after the new laws in 1993, is eligible to apply for the Military Exemption Letter.

- The fee details to obtain the “Military Exemption Certificate” will be intimated to the applicant while applying.
ValidityEdit
- There is no validity period for using the “Military Exemption Certificate”.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- If the applicant is planning to migrate to another country, and has served in the South African Military, then the other country’s immigration will require the “Military Exemption Certificate” document as one of the proofs to state the No Obligation Status” with the South African Military Service.
