Apply In-Person:
- To obtain the Licensing of PABX Switching Units and Suppliers, the applicant must go to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa’s (ICASA) office Contact Link
- The application form must be obtained from the authorities at the ICASA office.
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The application form must be filled with all the necessary details, and along with the required documents, it must be submitted to the respective officer in the ICASA department.
- The authorities will verify the application and the documents submitted by the applicant.
- After verifying the eligibility requirements, if all the details are legitimate then the PABX licensing for Switching Units and Suppliers will be approved by the ICASA.
- After approval the applicant will be issued with the “type-approval” certificate for the registered user.
- The prescribed fee by the officials must be paid along with the application, and the proof of payment must be attached with the other documents.
- The processing time to get the approval for PABX Licence will be intimated to the applicant after applying.

- The applicant must be a South African citizen.
- Also, the applicant must have a registered company in SA to apply for the PABX licensing.

ValidityEdit
- The type-approval certification issued for the PABX Switching Units and Suppliers is valid for lifetime, unless if there are exceptional circumstances, such as alteration and/or modification of the technical specification of the type-approved equipment.
- However, a licence issued shall be valid for 3 years from the date of issue.

- “PABX” means a private automatic branch exchange.
- “PABX supplier” means the person to whom Type Approval is issued by ICASA, allowing him to supply, install and maintain a PABX system in accordance with ICASAs requirements.
- All PABX switching unit types shall be evaluated and tested by an accredited test laboratory for compliance with the requirements.
- Only complete test reports issued by an accredited test laboratory shall be accepted as proof of compliance to the required standards. Declarations of conformity will not be acceptable.

Need for the DocumentEdit
As per the Communications Authority of South Africa, to supply and install PABX switching units of such type for connection to the PSTN and to maintain such PABX switching units, extension reticulation and extension terminal, the supplier needs the license approval from ICASA.
