Apply In-Person:

  1. To Obtain Import Permit or License for Waste, the applicant must go to the International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa’s (ITAC) office. Contact Link
  2. Before submitting the import permit application, the applicant must register themselves as an Importer with SARS – SOUTH AFRICAN REVENUE SERVICES and ITAC with the “Form IE230 - APPLICATION TO REGISTER WITH ITAC AS AN IMPORTER”. Registration Application Form Link
  3. The import permit application form (s) must be obtained from the authorities at the ITAC office, or else it should be downloaded from the website.
  4. The waste import application form depends on the purpose of importing waste by the applicant, therefore appropriate forms must be used such as Commercial, Commercial Annexure, Personal, and Personal Annexure.
  5. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  6. The application form must be filled with all the necessary details, and along with the required documents it should be submitted to the authorities at the ITAC office.
  7. The application form will be verified by the ITAC authorities with the import rules and inspection processes.
  8. If all the import permit requirements are fulfilled by the applicant, then the import permit will be approved to the applicant.
  9. If there are any false information or missing details and documents in the application, then the application will be rejected by the inspection authority.
  10. The import permit approval will take a minimum of 5 working days to process.
  11. There is no fee for applying for the import permit application. However, the applicant needs to pay for customs duty to SARS as per percentage of the value of the goods. (Set in the schedules to the Customs and Excise Act).


Note:
  • All used goods, second-hand goods, waste and scrap are subject to import control measures before approving the import permit.
  • The application needs to filed in typescript form or in Block Letters (If manually filed)
  • The application form that contains alterations or erasures, or that are not duly completed, will not be considered for the permit approval.

  • There is no fee for applying for the import permit application.
