South Africa - How To Replace your lost or damaged matric certificate

Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for replacing your lost or damaged Matriculation certificate in person, the applicant should visit the office of Department of Basic education or office of any Provincial Education Department.
  2. The contact details and address information of the DBE can be found in the following link: Link Details of PED offices are also available under the “Provincial Offices” section in the above link page.
  3. Visit the office of any of the above mentioned departments and get the Application for obtaining Replacement for Lost or damaged matric Certificate from the respective authority/counter as directed.
  4. Fill the application form as applicable to your requirement and relevant information. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
  5. Attach all the documents with the completed Application form and submit it to the respective department at the office of any of the above mentioned departments. And pay the required amount of fees as directed, at the office.
  6. After submission, the application form and attached documents will be verified and validated correspondingly by the concerned officials.
  7. When the officials find the application and documents in order, they will amend necessary proceedings for the replacement of the Matriculation Certificate.
  8. Once the Matriculation Certificate is all ready to be replaced, it will be issued to the applicant through the means that he/she had mentioned in the application form.

  1. To apply for replacing your lost or damaged Matriculation certificate through post, the applicant should submit the application to the office of Department of Basic education or office of any Provincial Education Department by post.

EligibilityEdit

  • Any person, whose matriculation certificate is lost or damaged, can apply for replacement.
  • In case of damaged Certificate, the replacement will come into amendment only when the old one is submitted to the office.

  • Applying for your lost or damaged matric certificate might differ from one province to another.
  • You can pay the prescribed fee by postal order at the Post Office, cash at DBE / PED office or by cheque.
  • You can obtain your statement of results immediately. For records not on the system, it will take longer as records needs to be retrieved from the Archives and loaded on the system.
