- To apply for Refund of a motor vehicle license fees, the person who wants to do so should visit the nearest Provincial administration office where the motor vehicle was registered.
- The contact links for each province in South Africa are listed in the “Office Locations & Contacts” section of this page. Please click the link of your province and look for a nearest Municipality according to your location.
- Visit the municipality which is located nearest to you and obtain an Application for Refund of Licence Fees (RLF) Form, from the concerned department at the office.
- Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required documents” section of this page.
- Now, complete the application form with appropriate information about you and your vehicle for which refund has been claimed.
- Submit it to the concerned authority at the Registering authority, along with all the required documents.
- After submission, the authority will check for legibility of the application and the validity of the attached documents.
- And if the application information and all the documents are found in order, your request will be approved and you will be acknowledged with a receipt as a proof of application.
- A refund will be initiated and the money will be refunded to the applicant’s bank account after some days from the date of application.

- Confirmation affidavit for the vehicle’s disability or Deregistration certificate copy
- Unused license disc (if required)

EligibilityEdit
- If the owner of a motor vehicle finds the vehicle permanently not suitable to be driven on public roads, he or she can deregister the vehicle and apply for a Refund of license fees.
- He/she can also deregister a motor vehicle and apply for a refund, if it has been stolen.
- The application for a refund must be lodged within three months from the date of theft notification or vehicle’s deregistration.

InstructionsEdit
- The refund will only be considered if the Credit Order Instruction form is signed and stamped by the bank.
- Your refund will be calculated at one twelfth of the motor vehicle licence fees paid for your motor vehicle for every month for which the vehicle licence remains valid.
- An amount of less than R100 shall not be refunded.
- The money can only be paid into a bank account. If the applicant doesn't have their own bank account then he/she can use someone else's account but this is done at his/her own risk.
