Apply via Post & Mail:

  1. To Enrol in Man and the Biosphere Reserves (MAB) Programme, the applicant must send the nomination form to the UNESCO in France. Contact Link
  2. The application form must be downloaded from the SA’s Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment department’s official website. Application Form Link
  3. Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  4. After filling all the details in the Nomination form, the applicant should send the hard copy of the application form along with 2 copies, and the supporting documents to the UNESCO headquarters.
  5. Otherwise, the electronic version of the documents can also be sent directly via mail to the MAB secretariat at [email protected].
  6. Based on the three major functions, namely, Conservation, Logistics, and Development, the nomination application will be verified by the UNESCO officials.
  7. If the members of the UNESCO are satisfied with the nomination application, the mentioned zone will be considered and enrolled for the MAB programme.
  8. The processing time and the fee structure of the enrolment will be intimated to the applicant by the UNESCO.


Note: There are 3 main parts in the application, which needs to be filled in hand by the applicant in either English, Spanish, or in French language.

  • The South African officials associated with the International Coordinating Council of the MAB Programme of the State concerned is eligible for the MAB programme application.
