Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for Subsistence and Small-scale Fishing Exemption in person, the person applying must visit the local co-management committee in his/her locality.
  2. You can get information about the local co-management committee by using the contact details in the following link: Link
  3. Get the relevant contact and location details of the co-management committees and visit the office of the committee.
  4. Obtain a prescribed application format (if any) to register and apply for Subsistence and Small-scale Fishing Exemption, from the relevant department.
  5. Make sure that you have all the documents required for the application procedure when you visit the office.
  6. Complete the procedure as required with relevant details under respective sections. Then, proceed to submit the application package to the relevant authority at the office in person for further processes. Make the necessary payment as directed.
  7. Then, the submitted documents will be put into further verification and validation processes.
  8. Once all the processes got completed, Departmental officials will call a community meeting to issue exemptions to all registered fishers.

  • It is unlawful to engage in subsistence and small-scale fishing without a permit. Currently subsistence and small-scale fishers are managed by fishing exemptions until the finalisation of the small-scale fisheries policy.
  • The respective sector or fishery that you want to engage in should be indicated in the application. The list should be signed by the applicant to acknowledge receipt of your exemptions.
