Apply In-Person:
- To Apply for National Teaching Award (Self Portrait), the applicant must go to the Department of Basic Education Contact Link
- The applicant must get the “Form – 2” Self Portrait application from the respective authorities in the Education Department.
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant must fill in the application form with a maximum of 1000 words.
- The application form must be signed by the Nominee and the Nomination Team, and then it should be submitted along with the required documents to the selecting committee in the Education Department.
- The application form will be scrutinized and verified based on the eligibility criteria set by the committee.
- If all the criteria are fulfilled by the applicant, then the National Teaching Award will be presented to the Nominee on the respective day organised by the Education Department.
- The fee details and the processing time will be intimated to the applicant while submitting the application at the Education Department.

- Proof of SACE registration, or provisional registration. (Should not be expired)
- A SACE letter and/or SACE number on payslip. (If applicable)
- Certified copies qualification/s. (Dates on the copies should not be longer than 6 months)
- Forms and School Motivation Forms. (Must be sent to the District Office by the date determined by the district and/or province)
- Other documents requested by the officials.

EligibilityEdit
The eligibility criteria to file for National Teaching Award (Self Portrait) are:
- The applicant should be a serving teacher or practitioner in a public school/ECD Centre registered with the Department of Basic Education and/or Social Development in South Africa.
- The applicant should be employed by a Provincial Department of Education or a School Governing Body.
- The applicant should have been working for at least two years in any of the above institutions in South Africa without a break of service.
- The applicant should enter the Lifetime Achievement Award and must have worked as a teacher in a public school and/or centre in South Africa for a minimum of thirty (30) years without a break in service.
- The applicant should hold South African citizenship and if a team, be made up of members who hold South African citizenship.
- Note: The applicant should not enter the NTA, in the same category, if they had previously won the NTA at either provincial and/or national level. The applicant under these categories is eligible for entering five years from the year of receipt of the award unless if it is in another category.

The fee details will be intimated to the applicant while applying.
ValidityEdit
- The NTA award is valid for a period of 5 years from the date of receiving it.
- However, the applicant can nominate and get NTA in some other category, which will eventually be valid for another 5 years from the date of receiving it.

Need for the DocumentEdit
To participate in the National Teaching Award, the applicant must file the written application to the Department of Basic Education. Based on the nomination application, the Award will be given to the eligible candidates by the DBE.
