Apply In-Person:
- To Apply for Marine Aquaculture Hatchery Permit or License, the applicant must visit the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment office in South Africa. Contact Link
- The application form must be obtained from the authorities at the DFFE office, or else it should be downloaded from the website. Application Form Link
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The application form must be filed with necessary details.
- Later, the application form and the required documents should be submitted at the Customer Service Centre department of the DFFE office.
- After that the application will be verified by the officials, and if the details provided and the supporting documents submitted are legitimate, then the Marine Aquaculture Hatchery Permit will be approved by the officials.
- The application fee of R240.00 must be paid while submitting the application, and the proof of payment must be attached to the application form.
- The complete fee details are given in the “Fees” section of this page.
- The processing time to get the approval for the Marine Aquaculture Hatchery Permit is 7 working days from the date of submitting the application along with the fee receipt. (If the fee payment receipt is not attached then processing will be delayed)

- Proof of payment.
- Proof of ownership of site (title deed) or a valid lease agreement for the site. (Once off submission).
- Original Tax Clearance Certificate as approved by South African Revenue Services (SARS). (Provided that the previously submitted SARS certificate has expired). (Once off submission).
- If applying on behalf of a Right holder, a letter of authorization from the Right holder granting the nominated person permission to sign documents on his/her behalf or to collect the relevant permit(s).
- True certified copies of the Identity documents of the Right holder and the nominated party.
- Production data (frozen, canned, live) for current year of operation in respect of the mass, size and number of marine aquaculture products harvested, sold and destination market.
- If processing occurs on the marine aquaculture operation/farm,
- Certification by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS)/National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS), or
- Certificate of suitability of premises for food preparation, or
- Certificate of Acceptability for Food Premises obtained from the local municipality.
- Provision of all wet storage information. (Physical address and products processed)
- Certified copies of valid vehicle registration for all nominated vehicles.
- Certified copy of a valid SAMSA (South African Maritime Safety Authority) Certificate.
- Certified copy of a valid radio license (VMS), reflecting the call sign, as issued by SATRA (South African Telecommunications Regulatory Authority).
- A signed agreement between the vessel owner and farmer, if the vessel owner is not the farmer.
- True certified copies of the Identity documents of the Right holder and the nominated party.
- A certified copy of the nominated Skipper’s Identity document.
- A letter of authorization from the Right holder granting the nominated person permission to sign documents on his/her behalf or to collect the relevant permit(s).
- True certified copies of the Identity documents of the Right holder and the nominated party.

- The Marine Aquaculture Hatchery Permit can be applied only by the prior Marine Aquaculture right holders.

- Amendment Fee – R265.00
ValidityEdit
- The Marine Aquaculture Hatchery Permit is valid for 15 years. However, the applicant needs to renew the license once in 6 months.
