Apply Online:

  1. To Apply for International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund Levy, the applicant must go to the South African Revenue Services’ (SARS) e-Filing portal website. Online Link
  2. On the given link, the applicant must register themselves by entering the necessary details asked on the webpage.
  3. After registering, the applicant must “Log in” with the newly created “Username and Password”
  4. If already registered in SARS, the applicant can directly “Login” using the Login credentials. Login Link
  5. After logging in, the applicant must select the “returns” option on the main page.
  6. Then must select the “Create Additional Payment” under the “Additional Payment” menu.
  7. On the next landing page, under the “tax type” drop-down menu, the applicant must select the “Oil Pollution Tax” option.
  8. Then on the next page, the applicant needs to enter all the necessary details.
  9. On the same page, the applicant must select the “Make Payment” option, where after the amount to be paid must be confirmed and the “Payment Detail” must also be selected and confirmed by the applicant.
  10. Now the go the “Individual portfolio” menu, must select the “Home” to find the SARS Registered Details functionality on the left menu.
  11. Now the International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund Levy registration is finalised.
  12. There is no fee to apply for International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund Levy on the e-Filing portal.
  13. The International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund Levy can be filed and paid immediately on the online portal.


Note: At any instance, if the applicant couldn’t access the e-filing portal, they can approach the nearest SARS Excise Branch office, and the issue will solved/assisted for the applicant. Contacts and Address Link

  • All the individuals who receive by sea the “contributing oil” such as crude and heavy fuel oil in excess of 150,000 metric tonnes per annum in South Africa, or landed by sea in a non-member country and transported it to South Africa are eligible for the IOPCF levy application.
