Apply In-Person:
- To Apply for Direct Residence Permit, the applicant must visit the Ministry of Home Affairs office in South Africa. Contacts Link
- First, the applicant must submit written representation letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs stating the motive of applying for the Permanent Residence.
- Based on the Home Affairs decision, the applicant will either be accepted or prohibited from applying for Direct Permanent Residence.
- If the applicant is considered as a desirable person by the Ministry of home affairs, the applicant should can apply for the Direct Permanent Residence.
- The application form can be downloaded from the official VFS global website linked here. Application Form Link
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The application form must be filed with necessary details.
- Later, the application form and all the necessary documents should be submitted to the officials at the Ministry of Home Affairs office.
- The application approval is entirely based on the visa officer decision.
- If the ministry official is satisfied with the details provided and the supporting documents submitted by the applicant, then the Direct Permanent Residence application will be approved, and the decision will be conveyed to the applicant.
- The fee details will be intimated to the applicant based on the category that they are applying the direct permanent residence.
- The processing time to get the direct permanent residence is anywhere from 4 to 8 months.

- A divorce decree / proof of legal separation. (If applicable)
- Proof of custody of a minor. (If applicable)

- Proof of judicial adoption of a minor. (If applicable)
- Police clearance certificates for all countries in which you resided for a period of one year or longer since your 18th birthday

EligibilityEdit
- Direct residence permit can be applied by applicants who are already residing in South Africa on their work permit for a minimum of 5 years.
Direct Permanent Residency will also be granted on other grounds such as:
- If the applicant has permanent work offer in South Africa.
- If the applicant has exceptional skills and qualifications.
- If the applicant intends to establish a business in South Africa
- If the applicant qualifies as a Refugees in terms of the Refugees Act
- If the applicant qualifies as a retired person.
- If the applicant is financially independent.
- If the applicant is a relative (biologically or judicially adopted) of a South African citizen/permanent residence permit holder.
