Apply In-Person:
- To Apply for Crematorium Permit or License in South Africa, the applicant has to approach the respective district municipality offices link
- Note: The applicant can click on the map to explore municipalities by province, or search for any municipality, town, person, etc. using the search function.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
- Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets the call from the office regarding the application.
- This entire process can be completed within 15- 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

- A copy of business name (name of signboard).
- A copy of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) on handling bodies in the licensed funeral parlour.
- A detailed schedule on the cleaning program for the cleaning of equipment and premises.
- Details of a pest control programme.
- A scaled metric layout plan of the premises showing the layout in the service hall, room used for the preparation of bodies including the embalming room, space to hold bodies, toilets, stores etc.
- A copy of the tenancy agreement or sales & purchase agreement.

Need for the DocumentEdit
- The licence will be issued to the individual applicant and registered company or society operating and managing the crematorium. No funeral parlour shall begin operation, unless a licence has been issued.
