Slovakia - Apply for a Passport
ProcedureEdit
- Fill in the application form.
- Submit the form along with all the other required documents.
- Pay the administrative fee.
- Once the passport is ready to be collected, the applicant will pick it up in the same office where he/she applied. Passports for citizens older than 15 years old may be picked up by another as long as he/she can present a power of attorney to represent. For applications lodge by applicants older than 15 years old, a power of attorney is not necessary if it is already mentioned during application that the passport will be collected by another person.
Required DocumentsEdit
- ID card. In case the person is not a holder of an identity card, a birth certificate may be presented instead, or certificate of citizenship issued by the Slovak Republic, which may not be older than six months since it was issued or other registry document if there is a change matrix event, regarding the Slovak citizenship of the applicant. You can show a valid passport or other documents which are necessary for the issuance of the passport
- Birth certificate, for those applying for a passport for the first time.
- Previously issued passport
- Proof showing payment of administrative fee.

Applicant who is issued a new passport to replace a valid passport for entry of data on severe disability pay an administration fee of half the tariff. Passport as a substitute for a valid passport for entry of data on severe disabilities:

Applicant aged 6-16:
- 30 days: 6.50
- within 10 working days: 13

Passport with a validity of one year issued to a citizen who is temporarily unable to submit samples of their fingerprints :

Tax Exemption:
For person applying for a passport as a substitute for a valid passport for changes not caused by citizens, or if the passport encountered an error caused by the manufacturer passport or error caused by the authority which issued the passport.
For person applying for a passport to replace a valid passport at the limits of legal capacity or deprived of legal capacity.
ValidityEdit
A passport issued to a citizen after the age of 16 is valid for 10 years, citizens aged below 16 are issued passports valid for 5 years and passport holders aged 6 and below are given passports that are valid for two years.
Citizens who is temporarily unable to submit samples of their fingerprints, shall be issued a passport valid for one year.
If a citizen holding a valid passport with a validity of 10 years and seek a second passport, and will consequently result to him/her holding two valid passports, the second passport will be valid for 5 years.

Applications to obtain a Passport are submitted in the permanent or temporary residence of the applicant. Application for minors (15 years old and below) are submitted by their parents or legal representatives.

Need for the DocumentEdit
A passport is a document, issued by the national government. It certifies the identity and nationality of the holder for travel abroad. It contains information about the holder; like name, gender, date and place of birth.
This document does not in itself entitle the passport holder entry into another country, nor consular protection while abroad nor any other privileges. However, it does normally allows the passport holder to return to the country where the passport was issued.
Rights to consular protection arises from international treaties, while the holder's return to the issuing country depends on the laws prevailing in that country.
