Step 1: To obtain international Driving License (IDL), the applicant has to approach the Singapore Police Force for information link or the applicant should approach any of the three training centres that are mentioned below;

Step 2: The applicant must first complete a Basic Theory Test (BTT) which ensures they understand the Singaporean road rules.

The candidate can choose and book from a list of test dates, timings and locations, depending on availability at any one of the above-mentioned training centres.
A candidate must produce:
- An identity card (Passport and Singapore green card)
- Basic Theory booking slip/receipt

Step 3: After the successful completion of test, the applicant can immediately apply for conversion of license to the traffic police licensing department contact link

The applicant must carry all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
Fee for this procedure has to be paid as per the authority request.
There the authorised officer will review application and process the international driving license.

Required DocumentsEdit

For Singapore citizen:

Valid licence (If the licence does not show the date on which it was first issued, the Traffic Police may have to contact the issuing authority. A foreign licence must be translated if it is not in English)
Confirmation of residence in the country of issue for a continuous period of six months (a passport and other official documents will be needed),
Confirmation that the foreign driving licence was obtained during the period in the issuing country

For foreigners:

Overseas students must produce proof of six months' stay in the country, (for example, educational transcripts or Letter of Acceptance into the Educational Institution) and the relevant visa in the passport
Those employed overseas must produce a Letter of Employment or Income Tax Returns or supporting documents from your employer and the relevant Employment Pass in the passport
For Malaysian licence holders, an extract from Jabatan Pengangutan Jalan (JPJ) is compulsory

EligibilityEdit

Any person above 18years of age who intends to obtain international driving license are eligible to make this application.

FeesEdit

The fee for this procedure is $20.

ValidityEdit

The international driving license is valid for a period of one year, from the date of issue.

The processing time of this procedure takes up to 5 business days.

InstructionsEdit

The IDP is valid in the territory of all the Contracting States of Convention on Road Traffic of 19 September 1949.
The issuance of an IDP is restricted to the applicant holding a valid driving licence.
Your valid Singapore driving licence must accompany the IDP at all times when driving overseas.
The IDP issued is NOT VALID for use in Singapore or the IDP holders home country to which the IDP holder is transferring his residency.
The IDP is VOID when the IDP holder gives up his/her Singapore Citizenship or Singapore Permanent Residency, or does not have a valid Singapore employment pass/S-pass/work permit.
The IDP is valid for one (1) year from date of issue and is NOT RENEWABLE.
The IDP requires your signature on the line directly beneath your photograph.

Need for the DocumentEdit

As tourists, above the age of 18 years, willing to drive in Singapore, you will need a valid driving license in English and an International Driving License.
International Driving License is usually issued by your home country, where your driving license was issued. If it is not available, an official translation of your foreign driving license in English is required.
If you are from an ASEAN (Association of South-East Asian Nations) country-Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, you can legally drive in Singapore with just your driving license. There is no need for you to apply for a permit.
