- To Apply for Solicitors License, the applicant has to approach the Law Society Of Scotland link
- Obtain a qualifying law degree recognized by the Law Society of Scotland. This could be an LLB (Bachelor of Laws) degree or a Graduate LLB if the applicant already have a degree in another subject.
- After completing the applicant’s law degree, he/she needs to undertake the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice, which is a practical training course that prepares him/her for a career in law.
- Once the applicant has successfully completed the DPLP, he/she must complete a two-year traineeship with a solicitor's firm or organization approved by the Law Society. During this period, he/she will gain practical experience in various areas of law.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant has to attach photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting it.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant has to pay the fee for Notary Public License is £ 75.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
- Once the process gets completed, the applicant gets a call from the office regarding the application.
- If the application is approved, he/she will be admitted as a solicitor and be issued with a Solicitor's License. This allows him/her to practice law in Scotland.
- This entire process can be completed within 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

To be eligible to apply to be a solicitor in Scotland, the applicant must:
- Be a graduate of a Scottish law degree or an equivalent qualification from another jurisdiction.
- Complete the Law Society of Scotland's Qualifying Examination (SQE).
- Complete a two-year period of training with a qualified solicitor.
- Pass the Law Society's Professional Skills Examination (PSE).
