Apply In-Person:
- To Apply for Outdoor Recreation License, the applicant must approach their respective Local Council in Scotland link
Note: The applicant must select their Local council from the drop-down menu.
- An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
- The applicant must fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
- Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The applicant must attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
- Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
- The applicant must pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
- After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
- All applications are processed within a reasonable time, having regard to the circumstances of each application, including the completeness of information and documents submitted to the authority by the applicant.
- The authority may seek additional information from an applicant if this is necessary to assess the application. The authority does not need to deal further with an application until the applicant has provided this additional information.
- Once you obtain your outdoor recreation license or permit, ensure that you adhere to all the conditions and regulations specified.
- Be aware of any renewal requirements and ensure that your license or permit remains valid as needed.
- This entire process can be completed within 15 - 30 days or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

EligibilityEdit
The applicant is eligible to apply for an Outdoor Recreation License in Scotland if you:
- Want to charge for outdoor adventure activities for under 18s.
- Are offering activities that are on the list of activities that require a license, such as climbing, water sports, caving, and trekking.
- Are offering activities in remote or isolated areas.
- Are not a voluntary association offering activities to your members, a school or college offering activities to your pupils or students, or an organization offering activities where each under 18 is with their parent or legally appointed guardian.

- The Outdoor Recreation License in Scotland is a statutory scheme that requires providers of adventure activities for under 18s to hold a license. The scheme was established by the Activity Centres (Young Persons' Safety) Act 1995, and accompanying Adventure Activities Licensing Regulations 1996.
