ProcedureEdit

  • To apply for a Class 4 driver's licence you must take the oral or written knowledge tests for Class 4 vehicles and a road test in a Class 4 or 5 vehicle. You should be able to demonstrate a pre-trip inspection - known as a circle check - at the time of the road test.
  • Class 4 driver's license also allows its holder to operate vehicles in the following license classes:
    • Class 5: Cars, vans and 2-axle trucks
    • As a learner with the appropriate endorsements:
      • Class 1: Power units and semi trailers, trucks towing trailers over 4,600 kg
      • Class 2: Buses with a seating capacity exceeding 24 passengers
      • Class 3: Trucks with more than 2 axles
  • To obtain a class 4 driving license, you will need to present identification documents that will verify your full legal name, date of birth and signature. Pay the license fee.

Required DocumentsEdit

Two pieces of valid identification - to verify your full legal name, date of birth and signature.

The first one must be a birth certificate, passport or Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) document, which includes:

  • Record of landing
  • Permanent resident card
  • Citizenship certificate
  • Student authorization
  • Employment authorization
  • Visitor record

The second piece of ID could be a Saskatchewan Health Card or another document accepted by SGI. If your name has changed due to marriage or for other reasons, please bring documentation to support the name change.

Make sure to bring several pieces of original identification with you (photocopies are not acceptable).

For applicants who will be driving taxis, you must have either a Certificate of Approval, Certificate of Good Moral Character or Criminal Record Check

EligibilityEdit

To apply for a class 4 driving license you must:

  • be a resident of Saskatchewan
  • submit a satisfactory medical report
  • have a Class 5 driver's license
  • be a minimum age of 18 and not a novice driver



FeesEdit

The license features a 5-year term and 2 payment options:

  • You can make 5 annual payments of $25, for a total of $125 over the 5-year period. SGI will send you a payment reminder every year. OR
  • Pay $100 for the entire 5 years.

If case you lose or damage your driver's license there is a $10 charge to have it replaced with the existing photo. Your driver's licence can be reprinted with a new photo any time before the expiry date for a $20 fee.
