Need for the DocumentEdit
An International Driving Permit (IDP) is a United Nations sanctioned document that translates your driving classification into nine different languages and is recognised in over 150 countries. To be valid the IDP must be accompanied by your Australian Driving License.
Information which might helpEdit
Remember that you must bring along your driving license issued in Australia during your trip abroad. The international driving permit is only a translation of your local driving license, you must be able to present both at all times.
Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit
- The IDP allows you to drive overseas without further tests or applications, provided your current Australian driver's licence is valid.
- You may also need to present your IDP along with your Australian license when renting a car abroad.
