Ontario - Apply Income Support for Workers

Apply In-Person:
- To apply Income Support for Workers in person, the applicant has to visit the local office of the Ontario Works.

- The applicant can also use the Social Assistance Office Finder for finding address of the Ontario Works Offices: Social Assistance Office Finder
- The applicant has to visit the respective Ontario Works office and inform that they want to apply for financial and employment assistance.
- A separate caseworker will be allotted for the applicant to gather all the information about the applicant and their family.
- Also, make sure that all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page, are available.
- The case worker will ask the applicant to complete an application form for obtaining the assistance.
- Do as instructed and complete an application form. Attach all the documents with the application and submit it to the caseworker.
- Once the caseworker receives all the information they need, they will tell the applicant within four business days if their application has been approved and how much they can expect to get.
- If the application is approved, the local Ontario Works office will advise when they can expect their first payment by direct deposit or cheque.
- The applicant’s caseworker will contact them to schedule an appointment to develop a plan for them to participate in employment-related activities, unless they have specific circumstances that prevent this, such as an illness or care giving responsibilities.
Apply online
- To apply Income Support for Workers online, the applicant has to visit the following online application portal Online application link
- In the page that opens, enter the home postal code in the tab provided and click “Continue” button.
- If the postal code is included in that portal it will redirect the user to the corresponding webpage containing application form.
- They will be asked a set of questions to assess their eligibility. Complete it as applicable for following the online instructions.
- If they have a different postal code which is not in that portal, they will be shown a message which will contain link of the Online Application for Social Assistance.
- Click the link and it will redirect the applicant to the Online Application form. There will be two options.
- Click the “Am I Eligible” button to know whether they are eligible to apply for the assistance.
- If the applicant already knows that they are eligible, they should click “Apply for Social Assistance” button and proceed.
- Click the applicable button and proceed to the application process. Make all the actions as per the requirement.
- Follow the onscreen instructions and complete the online application form for the assistance.
- Once completed, a separate caseworker will be allotted for the applicant to gather all the information about them and their family.
- He/she will call the applicant within four business days of submitting the application, to schedule an appointment.
- They need to visit the local office on the scheduled appointment date for meeting the caseworker.
- Also, make sure that all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page, are available.
- The caseworker might ask the applicant to provide more information, like copies of bills or other documents, so that they can verify the information the applicant has included in their application.
- They will also ask the applicant to sign the application package and a consent form which allows the Ontario Works to access information about them from other government programs or organizations.
- Do as instructed and complete an application process. Attach all the documents with the application and submit it to the caseworker.
- Once the caseworker receives all the information they need, they will tell the applicant within four business days if the application has been approved and how much the applicant can expect to get.

EligibilityEdit
The applicant might be eligible for Ontario Works if they:
- need help with their living expenses, meaning they do not have enough money to cover their immediate family’s living expenses
- are 16 or older
- live in Ontario (and are not a visitor or a tourist)

- The applicant should make sure all family members included in the application are with them, when they fill out the form so they can provide their consent and confirm their information.
- To complete the application online, the applicant will need the latest version of one of these web browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari or Microsoft Edge.
