Apply by Mail
- To apply by mail, the applicant will have to fill an application form from the Employment and Social Development Canada website.
- Here is the link to the Application Form.
- Fill in all the necessary details in the application form.
- Mail the documents to this address: Access to Information and Privacy Coordinator Phase IV Floor 12 Mail Stop 123 140 Promenade du Portage Gatineau QC K1A 0J9.
- The applicant does not need to pay fees.
- Once submitted, the application shall be forwarded to the relevant authorities.
- The applicant shall receive their SIN related information by mail within a few weeks from the submission of the application.

EligibilityEdit
- The applicant should be a Canadian Citizen, a permanent resident or a temporary resident.
- The applicant should be 12 years of age or older.
- The applicant must have a registered SIN.
FeesEdit
The applicant does not need to pay a fee to obtain information regarding their SIN.
ValidityEdit
These apply for SIN that begins with a “9”.
- For an applicant outside Canada, the SIN is valid for 5 years.
- A Social Insurance Number that is assigned to a person who was in Canada when they applied to be registered has a period of validity that expires on the earlier of the following days:
- The day on which the period authorized for their stay in Canada ends.
- The day that is two years after the day on which the number is assigned.
