Step 1: Payment for the practice License renewal fees
- This process should be the first step for an easier renewal procedure. Make payments of renewal fees of Thirteen thousand one hundred and twenty-five naira (N13,125) REMITA in any bank in favour of the Nurses and Midwives Council of Nigeria (NMCN) and proof of payment (Bank Payment receipt) shared with the council.
Step 2: Apply for renewal of the license and issue of the License.
- Application forms for Practice License are issued freely at the council office or downloadable via the council website Application Forms or directly download via this link Licensing of Professional Nurses Application Form. APPLICANTS FOR RENEWAL OF LICENSE SHOULD COMPLETE SECTIONS A - D.
- Carefully complete the form with appropriate information under relevant sections. But don’t forget to attest the forms with your signature once completed.
- Once completed, attach all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section below and submit them to the Council Registry Office. Don’t forget to make the stipulated payment as directed by the officials and attach proof.
- After you’ve submitted the form, the application, and other documents will be forwarded for examination and verification processes to determine if the application will be approved or denied.
- Once the verification and validation processes are over and if the application is found sufficient, it will be approved and the officials will proceed to take the required steps to issue the renewed license.
- The Council shall, in the case of refusal of renewing the license, give a reasoned decision and inform the applicant of his right of appeal.
- When the document is ready to be collected, the applicant will receive a notification from the office through email or phone call regarding the collection.
- One is required to bring proof of identification and surrender the expired license before being issued the renewed license.

Step 2: Register with the Nurses and Midwives Council of Nigeria Portal(New Applicants)
- Licensed Nursing/Midwives can renew their practice license through the council's online portal; NMCN Portal, click on the “Register Now” tab to be redirected to the registration page.
- Here applicants will be required to complete the following sections;
- Under the Personal Qualification section: Select the Speciality (Nurses or Midwives); enter the registration certificate number and surname. Then click on the “Send Me Code”
- Under SMS Verification section. Enter the Verification code sent to the registered mobile number as submitted during the registration process. In case of a change of contact, the council should be notified so that they can update their system. Then click on the “verify” tab.
- Under the Create Account section: Fill out all mandatory accurately, and enter your Password twice before clicking on the “Submit” tab. To Complete the Initial Registration.
Step 3: File the Application for renewal and issue the license
- Once logged on to the portal, proceed with the practice nursing renewal process, and attach all supporting documentation as listed on the site, don’t forget to share payment information with the council before submitting the application for assessment.
- The license is usually ready after a period of 30 days. Notification for collection will be made through email and text messages. One is required to collect the license in person from the council offices. One is required to carry proof of identity during collection.
- The Nursing practicing license shall be valid for three (03) years, while for private nursing practice, the license is valid for one year and renewal thereafter.

EligibilityEdit
- The individual should be registered with the Council and a holder of a practicing license.
- To be of good reputation and commendable conduct.
- To have never been sentenced in a felony or misdemeanor (for a custodial penalty in a crime involving moral turpitude or breach of trust, unless rehabilitated in either case). In short, not to have a criminal record.
FeesEdit
- Practicing licenses are renewable every three (3) years, the current renewal fee is Thirteen thousand one hundred and twenty-five naira (N13,125) only for three years, with a penalty of Six thousand five hundred and sixty-two naira(N6,562) for each year of default. These fees are subject to review periodically.
ValidityEdit
- The practicing license s valid for three years and renewable thereafter application for renewal should be submitted on time before the lapse of the current practice license, to allow enough time for the renewal due process to be completed.
