Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for Exploration License or Permit from Mines Department in person, the applicant has to visit the office of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office.

  3. Visit the office and obtain an application form for Exploration License or Permit from the relevant department. Or click here to download application form
  4. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. Complete the application form with all the required details and information. Attest it with your signature.
  6. Then, attach all the required documents with the application form and submit it to the relevant authority at the MCO.
  7. Pay the required amount of money as processing fees by following the prescribed procedure.
  8. Your application will be assigned a unique code for identification and the submission will be entered in the priority register.
  9. An acknowledgement receipt will also be issued to the applicant. After this, the office will notify the owners of the concerned land to submit a final consent within 7 days from the date of submission of application.
  10. Meanwhile, the applicant will be notified regarding the discrepancies in the submitted application and instructed to correct them accordingly.
  11. This should be done within five days; otherwise the office would cancel the application without refund.
  12. Once all the corrections are done, the office will verify them once and enter all the information into the system, then recommend it for approval.
  13. When the license is ready to be collected, the applicant will be notified to first pay the annual service fee.
  14. The fees should be paid within fourteen days; otherwise the grant of license will be automatically withdrawn.
  15. On receipt of the annual fees, the applicant will be notified through phone or email to collect the license.

EligibilityEdit

  • Any organization in Nigeria, that intends to involve in Exploration process, can apply.
  • The land involved in the process should not be subject of an existing Exploration License, Mining Lease, Small Scale Mining Lease or Quarry Lease.
  • Forest reserves, military areas, government dev areas, national heritage area, etc are not eligible for the license and the land should not be closed for prospecting/mining activity.
  • The area of land covered by an Exploration License shall not exceed [200sq.km Link] (1000 CUs).

InstructionsEdit

  • Applicants are advised to complete the application form neatly and completely with absolute legibility and appropriateness to avoid rejections.
  • Also, all the required documents must be furnished completely.
  • The applicant should submit three copies of the completed application form.
  • The issued license will be valid for a period of 3 years renewable for a further 2 terms of two (2) years each, provided that the title holder has complied with minimum work commitment/programme and all the other legal requirements.
