Apply In-Person:

  1. To apply for Place of Worship License or Permit in person, the applicant has tovisit the Citizenship & Business Department of Nigerian Ministry of Interior.
  2. The address and contact details can be found in the following contact link
  3. Visit the office and obtain an application form for Place of Worship License or Permit from the relevant department.
  4. Make sure that you have all the documents listed in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. Complete the application form with required details of you, the place which needs license and the representative for place of worship under respective sections.
  6. After completing, attach the documents (as required) with the application form.
  7. Then submit the application package to the relevant authority at the office.Pay the required amount of fees as directed by the officials.
  8. After submission, the submitted applications and attached documents will put forth for verification and validation.
  9. After checking and finding that the requirements have been furnished properly, the officials will proceed to perform further required actions.
  10. Once all the necessary processes are over and the license/permit is ready for collection, you will be notified through phone or email and asked to collect the document.


Apply Online

  1. To apply for Place of Worship License or Permit online, the applicant has to visit the ECITIBIZ portal of the Ministry of Interiors, Nigeria by clicking the following apply online
  2. If you have an account already, you can enter the user details, click “Log in” and proceed. If not, click “New User Registration” link below and click the “Corporate Account (Place of Worship)” option under “Personal” tab in the next page.
  3. Click “register now” button, registration page will open, enter all the details required and click “Register” button. Account preview will be displayed, scroll down and click “Proceed” button.
  4. A verification email will be sent to your email ID, open the email and click on the “click here” link to activate the account. Under the email confirmation message, “click here” link will be given, click on that to proceed.
  5. Login page will be opened, log in again by following the instructions mentioned before. Basic company profile should be set up the first time you log in after registration.
  6. Set it up by filling the required details, uploading the required documents’ soft copies and click “Apply for Place of Worship License” button. You can click “Add more” option and upload any document other than the documents asked for.
  7. Online application form for Place of Worship License will open, in which you have to fill all the required details under different tabs, and upload all the required documents in “Documents upload” tab.
  8. After completing, click “Proceed” button, then a message will pop-up, click “Submit” button if you want to make the payment and lodge the application at that time itself or click “save as draft” button to make the payment later.
  9. Application summary will be displayed. Check the tick box and click “Proceed to payment” button.
  10. Choose any payment method that is listed in the payments page and make the payment by following the on-screen instructions.
  11. After payment, do not refresh the page and now that you have done the payment, your application would have lodged successfully.
  12. After submission, the submitted applications and attached documents will put forth for verification and validation.
  13. After checking and finding that the requirements have been furnished properly, the officials will proceed to perform further required actions.
  14. Once all the necessary processes are over and the license/permit is ready for collection, you will be notified through phone or email and asked to collect the document.

  • The applying entity must have a Certificate of Incorporation and Certificate of Occupancy.
  • The representative and the Minister of the Place of Worship should have a valid of means of Identification.

InstructionsEdit

  • Make sure you submit for all outstanding months.
  • All monthly returns should be submitted of the previous months not the present month. A month has to finish first before you can submit monthly returns for it.
  • Even if no marriage was conducted for a particular month, submit the No Marriage Conducted that displays on the table.

Need for the DocumentEdit

Underthe Marriage Act, CAP M6, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, (2004), all Places of Worship need to be licensed by the Ministry of Interior, in order to conduct Marriages legally in Nigeria.
