Procedure

1. Go to a DMV local office.
2. Complete the form: Form MV-44 : Application for Nondriver ID Card or Drivers License or Form MV-44EDL: Application for Enhanced Driver License or Non-Driver ID Card for an enhance State ID.
3. Submit the necessary documents.
4. Pay the necessary fees.
5. Have your photo be taken at the Photo Center.

Note:
If you are under 16 years old, your parent or guardian must be with you when you apply. They must fill out a Statement of Identity and/or Residence by Parent/Guardian (Form MV-45) and bring their own state ID card.

Eligibility

In order to apply for a State ID, you must:

• Be a citizen or a legal resident of the U.S.
• Be a resident of New York State.
• Have your original birth certificate.
• Have your Social Security card.
• Be able to provide enough documents to verify your identity.

Fees

• $14 - ID card valid for 8 years.
• $10 - ID card valid for 4 years.
• $6.50 - ID card valid for 10 years, if youre either:
  • Under 62 years old and receive SSI.
  • 62 years old or older and do not receive SSI.
• There is no fee for an ID card valid 10 years, if youre 62 years old or older and receive SSI.

Note: You can pay for your ID card at a NYS DMV with cash, check, or credit card.

Validity may vary on the fees paid for a State ID card.
