Instructions

• The Nebraska Division of Vital Records (Nebraska Vital Records) issues certified copies of Nebraska divorce records for events which occurred within the State of Nebraska.
• Divorce records are available for events that occurred within the State of Nebraska from 1904 to present.
• A legal copy of a divorce certificate cannot be issued without proper purpose (http://www.sos.state.ne.us/rules-and-regs/regsearch/Rules/Health_and_Human_Services_System/Title-174/Chapter-3.pdf). You may get a divorce certificate for yourself or your parents.
• Be sure that you meet the above proper purpose before applying for a copy a divorce certificate (an application by one of the persons or children of the persons listed on the divorce certificate). The fee for the search will be kept if no record is found or the right person has not asked for the record. You will be notified in writing if no record is found or the proper purpose has not been met.
• You may request the certified copy of vital records by mail, phone and walk-in
• Payment could be cash, check or money order payable to "Vital Records"

• Name of wife.
• City or county where divorce was granted.
• Month/day/year granted.
• Why record is needed?
• If not your record, how are you related?
• A photocopy of the current government-issued photo id of the person making the application, i.e. current driver's license
