An applicant may only order copies of his or her own Montana birth certificate or one for an immediate family member (parent, spouse, child (must provide proof of relationship/legal need), legal guardian (must provide proof of relationship) or an authorized representative (must provide proof).

- The Montana Division of Vital Records (Montana Vital Records) issues certified copies of Montana birth certificates for events which occurred within the State of Montana.
- Birth Certificates are available for events that occurred within the State of Montana from 1907 to present.
- You may order a copy of a Montana Birth Certificate using one of the following services:

- Place an order by mail.
- Valid Identification is required for the purchase of a Montana Birth certificate.
- Personal check or money order should be made payable to Montana Vital Records.

Need for the DocumentEdit
You may need a birth certificate when enrolling in school, applying for a social security card or for certain legal proceedings. This can prove frustrating when you do not have a copy immediately on hand. If you want to obtain your birth certificate or if you would like to have an additional copy of your birth certificate you can obtain one with following the procedure given below.
