Procedure

Apply In-Person:

1. To Apply for Voluntary Continuation in the Mandatory Regime, Health Insurance to the ISSSTE,the applicant has to approach the Institute of Security and Social Services for State Workers– link
2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer.
3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
4. Make sure that the applicant has attached all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
9. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference.
10. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
11. ISSSTE will review the application and verify the information provided. They will assess whether they meet the eligibility criteria for voluntary continuation.
12. They will receive notification from ISSSTE regarding the approval or disapproval of your application for voluntary continuation.
13. If the application is approved, ISSSTE will provide details on the payment of premiums, if required.
14. Once the application is approved and any required payments are made, they will gain access to the mandatory health insurance regime through ISSSTE as a voluntary participant.
15. This entire process can be completed within 3 - 4 weeks or as per the timeline advised by the respective department authority.

• CURP (Clave Única de Registro de Población), a unique identification number in Mexico.

Eligibility

The following are eligible to apply for Voluntary Continuation in the Mandatory Regime, Health Insurance to the ISSSTE (Instituto de Seguridad y ServiciosSociales de los Trabajadores del Estado) in Mexico:

• Workers who have been terminated from their jobs and have at least 5 years of contributions to the ISSSTE.
• Workers who have retired from their jobs.
• Workers who have become disabled and are unable to work.
• Workers who have died and their spouse or children are eligible to continue their health insurance coverage.

Fees

• The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
