Apply In-Person:

  1. To Obtain Certificate for Ordinarily Resident in Mauritius, the applicant has to approach the Defence and Home Affairs Division in Mauritius Contact link

  3. The applicant should ensure that they thoroughly and accurately fill out the form, signing it in the presence of a Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths to guarantee the validity of the information provided.
  4. The applicant should attach the copy of the National Identity Card, a copy of the birth certificate and two recent passport-sized photographs of the applicant to the nearest Civil Status Office, which can be found under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. Applicants should Pay the prescribed fees as per the instructions on the "Fees" section of this page and submit the fees receipt to the Defence and Home Affairs Division in Mauritius, to complete the application process successfully.
  6. The applicant should Submit the application form, including any necessary supporting documentation, to the Officer in Charge of Citizenship to be considered for the application process.
  7. The Officer will thoroughly review the application and accompanying documents to ensure that all necessary criteria have been met before making a final decision.
  8. After a thorough check of the documents, the Officer in Charge will forward the application form to the Ministry of Home Affairs to proceed with further legal formalities and ensure that all the necessary protocols are followed.
  9. After reviewing the application, if everything is in accordance with the law and all required documents have been provided, the Certificate of Resumption of Citizenship will be issued, granting the individual the legal rights and responsibilities of a citizen of the country.
  10. After the applicants can get the Certificate of Resumption of Citizenship in person or by post.
  11. The processing time for obtaining a Certificate of Resumption of Citizenship to a person is approximately 12 months.

EligibilityEdit

  • Any person who is ordinarily resident in Mauritius is eligible for an Obtain Certificate for Ordinarily Resident in Mauritius.
  • To be eligible, the person must have resided in Mauritius for a continuous period of 183 days (about 6 months) or more and has the intention to remain in Mauritius for an indefinite period.



FeesEdit

  • A non-refundable application fee of Rs 2,000 should be paid upon submission of the application.
  • Upon approval, a prescribed fee of Rs 8,000 is payable at the Cash Office of the Prime Minister's Office.



ValidityEdit

  • A Certificate of Registration issued under the Mauritius Citizenship Act is valid for an indefinite period, but it should be kept safely as no duplicate is issued in case of loss.
