How to Apply
Apply In-Person

  1. If your passport is lost/stolen, you are required to file a police report or notification of lost property at the local police station immediately. Several countries have special tourist police with whom you can file the report.
  2. Request your own copy of the report or investigation document. You will need it later when you apply for a new passport or file an insurance claim, or if your passport ends up in the wrong hands.
  3. Visit the Mauritius diplomatic mission near you and express your interest, please note that same of the embassy required you to first book an appointment with them before visiting the embassy office.
  4. Fill out the application form, which can be obtained from the embassy offices or download it via the embassy website if available.
  5. Submit the duly completed application form along with the supporting documents (listed below) for processing.
  6. The embassy or consulate authorized official will check your eligible for an emergency travel document. If you’re not eligible, the embassy will notify you and tell you why.
  7. If your case is deem not urgent, you will be required to apply for a Mauritius passport at the embassy office.
  8. Pay the required processing fees, upon which you will be issued with an acknowledgment receipt.
  9. You may be issued with the emergency travel document on the same day you apply, if your circumstances are straightforward and very urgent.
  10. It may take longer to process your application if the circumstances are more complex. This may force you to change to change your travel plans.
  11. If the authorized official is satisfied that all the documents are in order you will be notified of the outcome within 4 working days, re-visit the embassy with the acknowledgment receipt and claim your emergency travel certificate/emergency passport.

Note: Applicants who want their processed Travel Certificate sent to them by post are advised to attach one of the following to their request(s):

  • A registered self-addressed envelope with the appropriate stamps (letter recommendée);
  • A pre-paid envelope from any recognized courier service provider.
  • Please note Not all embassies offer the post/mail return service (please consult with the embassy)

Required DocumentsEdit

  • Letter of consent from both parents in case of minors. Consent of parents may be obtained/certified before an Honorary Consul of Mauritius or at the Embassy of Mauritius.
  • Letter from the applicant requesting for the issuance of an Emergency Travel Certificate (Laissez-Passez).
  • Police report /investigating document (for the lost/stolen passport)
  • Proof of nationality: (any one of the following)
  • copy of the bio-data page of expired passport
  • Birth certificate
  • Voters ID card
  • Certificate of citizenship
  • Two recent passport-sized photos
  • Scanned Copy (page 1-2) of passport (if available)
  • Police report or a declaration made at the Embassy (If passport is missing/damaged)
  • proof that you cannot postpone your journey, for example a travel itinerary, flight booking details, other reservations or a letter from your employer
  • Application fees (card payment, cash, bank transfer)
  • Any other documents that may be requested by the embassy.

  • Mauritius citizens who had travel abroad and had their passport lost/stolen/damage or don’t have a valid Mauritius passport and need to travel back to Mauritius.
