Apply In-Person

  1. To Renew Stage Carriage Permit in Maharashtra the applicant has to approach the RTO office to which your area belongs to. Following link can provide you information related to the list of RTO office: link
  2. An application form will be provided to the applicant by the concerned officer. Or the applicant can download the application form from the following link link
  3. The applicant has to fill in all the necessary details in the application form. (Incomplete applications are not accepted)
  4. Make sure that the applicant has to attach all the necessary documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
  5. The applicant has to attach the photocopies of the required documents along with the application form while submitting.
  6. Submit all the documents with the completed form to the concerned officer.
  7. The applicant has to pay the prescribed fee as requested by the authority.
  8. After receiving the application, the concerned authority will check the submitted application and document set. If all are in place, the application will be accepted.
  9. An acknowledgment receipt will be provided. Please save it for future reference, it contains the application summary and contact details of the person to be contacted.
  10. Then the application will be processed further. All the updates on the application status will be sent via SMS to the applicant’s mobile number.
  11. The processing time for this procedure takes up to 10 - 15 days.

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Registration Certificate.
  • Insurance.
  • Route permit book, all in original.
  • Parking area certificate issued by any gazetted officer/Police officer/Revenue authority of the area.
  • Recent copy of Map along with Form-F of the land housing the parking facility.
  • No objection certificate of the tenant if the vehicle is intended to be parked on the land of tenant other than the vehicle owner.

InstructionsEdit

  • A permit other than a temporary permit or a special permit is effective from the date of issuance or renewal for a period of five years. If the permit is countersigned, the validity of the counter signature is to synchronise with the validity of the primary permit.
  • A permit is required to be renewed on an application made not less than fifteen days before the date of its expiry accompanied by permit and the fee.
  • The Transport Authority, is empowered to entertain an application for the renewal of a permit if it is satisfied that the applicant is prevented by good and sufficient cause.
  • The Transport Authority, may reject an application for the renewal of a permit on one or more of the following grounds, namely.
    • the financial condition of the applicant is unsatisfactory
    • the applicant had been punished twice or more for,
  • plying any vehicle
    • without payment of tax due on such vehicle;
    • without payment of tax during the grace period allowed for payment of such tax and then stop the plying of such vehicle;
    • on any unauthorised route;
  • making unauthorised trips:
    • Application for renewal should not be rejected unless an opportunity of being heard is given to the applicant.
  • If a permit is renewed after the expiry of the period, such renewal have effect from the date of expiry.
  • An application for the renewal of countersignature on permit should be made in writing to the transport authority accompanied by the permit.
  • The transport authority to whom such an application is made, has to renew the same by endorsement on the permit and intimate the transport authority who has granted the permit.

  • The type or types of vehicle to be used on the service and the approximate seating capacity.
  • Particulars of the time-table(s) proposed.
  • The standard rate of fare which it is proposed to charge.
  • Particulars of any stage or contract carriages permit (or similar authorisation under the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, 1914), valid in the Province, held by the applicant
  • Particulars of any permit (or similar authorisation under the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, 1914), held by the applicant in respect of the use of any transport vehicle in "the Dominion of India" during the last four year, which has been the subject of an order of suspension of cancellation.



Need for the DocumentEdit

Permit is an instrument issued by a State or Regional Transport Authority authorizing the use of a motor vehicle as a transport vehicle in specified manner as per the relevant provisions of Motor Vehicle Act and rules framed their under. Section 66 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 mandates for necessity of permit to transport vehicles. However, transport vehicles belonging to Central or State Government, police, local body, fire brigade, ambulance, cranes and goods vehicle having gross vehicle weight not exceeding 3000 kilograms are exempted from the necessity of permit. The stage carriage permit will expire after 5 years and you need to renew your stage carriage permit.

Following are the general conditions of every permit
  • Vehicle have to carry valid certificate of fitness and is at all times to be maintained in such condition so as to comply with the requirements of motor vehicle act and the rules made there under;
  • Vehicle should not be driven at a speed exceeding the speed permitted under motor vehicle act.
  • Vehicle should not be driven in contravention of the provisions;
  • Limiting the hours of work of drivers are required to be observed.
  • Vehicle have to carry valid certificate of insurance.
  • Name and address of the owner have to be painted on every vehicle to which the permit relates on the exterior of the body of that vehicle on both sides.



Other uses of the Document/CertificateEdit

A stage carriage permit holder is allowed to use the vehicle as a goods carriage subject to following conditions.

  • Luggage is allowed to be carried on the roof of a stage carriage or in boot, locker or compartment set aside for the purpose, but where it is so carried on a roof, adequate protection in the form of a guard rail is required to be provided.
  • Luggage should not be carried in any stage carriage so that its enterance or exit will be blocked.
  • Goods should not be carried on the top deck of a double decked stage carriage.
