Apply In-person
- The applicant will need a state permit for their vehicle as well as a commercial vehicle license.
- Visit the nearest RTO, the applicant can find the nearest RTO here
- The applicant will have to submit an application form and attach photocopies of the required documents as mentioned under the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Find fee-related information under the “Fees” section of this page.
- The applicant lorry will be inspected to make sure it meets all safety standards.
- Once the application has been approved, you can collect the certificate from the RTO.
Apply In-person
- Approach the nearest CSC centre and ask them for guidelines on how to obtain a license as a water tanker distributor.
- Here is the link to locate the nearest CSC centre CSC locator
- Procure the application form from the office and fill in the relevant details.
- Enter details, such as name, address, GST number and so on.
- The applicant will have to attach documents as mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- Make sure all the details in the form are correct.
- The applicant only needs a single license for all your water tankers.
- Make the fee payment. The applicant can find fee-related details under the “Fees” section of this page.
- The applicant will receive an application number, save this number in case the applicant wants to track their application.
- The applicant can use the application number to track the application.
- Once approved, the applicant can download the certificate or collect it from the CSC centre.
Apply Online
- To be able to distribute water with a water tanker, it is mandatory to obtain a license from FSSAI.
- The applicant will have to visit the official website of FSSAI.
- Here is the FSSAI website
- If you have login credentials you can log in.
- If you do not, follow these steps:
- On the top right, click on “Sign up”.
- You will be directed to another page where you will have to enter your name, email, mobile number, login ID and password.
- Enter captcha.
- Click on Sign up.
- A verification code will be sent to your mobile number and email ID.
- Enter these codes and your account will be created.
- Now, go back to the login page and log in.
- Once logged in, on the left, click on “License registration”.
- Click on “Apply for new registration”.
- Select the state where you want your license, in this case, it will be Bihar.
- Under “trade/retail” click on “Transportation”.
- The applicant will have to select how many tankers you have, now click on proceed.
- Click on “click here to…”.
- Enter details such as your GST number, address, pin code, state sub-district. (This is form B).
- Once done, click on “save and next”.
- The applicant will have to upload the documents.
- Make an online fee payment.
- Once payment is completed, you will receive an acknowledgement slip along with an application number that can be used to track your application.
- The applicant can download the license once it has been approved.

- Registration Certificate of the vehicle.
- Fitness Certificate of the vehicle.
- Insurance of the vehicle.
- Proof of payment of road tax.
- Fee for National Permit.
- Payment of green tax wherever applicable
- Demand drafts, made in favour of transport authorities, agreed in respect of other states towards payment of taxes

- Photo
- Government-issued photo ID such as AADHAAR, PAN, Voter ID etc.
- Proof of Address of Businesses activity (if an address is other than as mentioned in Photo ID Card)
