Lesotho - Get Electricity / Power Connection
ProcedureEdit
- Application:
- Apply for internal inspection by LEC and wait to receive inspection and certificate. Your electrician will need to apply for testing of the internal wiring in person at LEC after the wiring has been completed. LEC will conduct inspection of the wiring together with the electrician to see if the wiring was done according to LECs standards. If the wiring passes the test, LEC will give the electrician a certificate, which will be then given to the customer.
- Submit application to LEC. External inspection will conducted and you will be given an estimate. After signing and paying the quotation, you will then be receiving a final quote. If you decided to pay the quoted amount, the clerk will issue an invoice and you will need to pay the final quote at the cash office.
- Meter installation: After paying the final quotation, LEC will appoint a contractor from its existing list of registered contractors. Once the contractor has been awarded the contract, the contractors buy the relevant material. The meter is installed at the same time as when the connection is done. LEC will then go to the premises to inspect the works and to commission the meter (registration of the meter) and hand out a form/paper to you. Note: If you are applying for a General Purpose connection, check with LEC on how you can apply for their pre-financing scheme.
- Once construction works (external works) have been completed, you will need open an account with LEC, pay the security deposit and to activate the meter in the LEC system.
