Apply In-Person:
- The license is issued by the District Registrar of the Registration District concerned.
- The application form for the written examination of Document Writer License i.e. “Form 'B' Performa of the Application Form” can be obtained from the respective District Registrar office. Location and Contacts Link
- The applicant should pass the written exam to get the legal document writer’s license.
- The exam is announced once in two calendar year based on the want of licensed writer in different parts of the district.
- The notification for the exam is published in two daily State level newspapers for the respective district.
- The eligible candidate appearing for the exam should hold a certificate of admission granted by the District Registrar.
- Make sure that you have all the documents that are mentioned in the “Required Documents” section of this page.
- The filled in application should be submitted in the Sub- Registrar Office that the candidate is appearing for, along with the fee receipt.
- The complete fee details are mentioned below in the “Fees” section of this page.
- The application for the exam should be submitted within the 15 days from the date of publication.
- The receipt should also be attached with the application.
- The registrar can accept or reject the application after checking the eligibility criteria and will intimate the candidate.
- If the applicant is eligible, then the document writers license will be approved and issued to the applicant by the District Registrar of the Registration District concerned.

EligibilityEdit
To obtain the document writer license,
- The individual should not be less than 18 years of age
- The individual should be of good character
- The individual should have passed the Senior Secondary School examination or its equivalent.
FeesEdit
- The application fee for applying for the document writer’s license is Rs.100.
- The candidate can pay the application fee through:
- Indian Post
- Demand Draft
- Cash
ValidityEdit
- Every year the licensee should pay Rs.100 in the beginning of the calendar year as an advance to the District Registrar.
- Otherwise, there are chances for the cancellation of the license.

EXAMINATION – Licensing of Document Writers
- The exam is conducted by an officer in the “Additional Collector Rank” appointed by the District Registrar.
- The notification of the exam is released in the two State Newspaper to the concerned district.
- The candidates are tested on:
- The Kerala Stamp Act, 1959 (Act No. XVII of 1959) and its rules
- The Registration Act, 1908 (Act No. XVI of 1908) and its rules
- Drafting of Deeds.
- The exam is conducted for 3 hours and the maximum and minimum passing marks are 100 and 40 respectively.
- The merit list of the eligible candidates is announced by the District Registrar based on the vacancy in different parts of the district.
- The qualified candidates from the merit list are granted with the Document Writer License.
- As the notification for the exam is published once in two years, the candidates should carefully follow the exam update from the government.
