Kenya - Renewal of Practice License as a Veterinary Specialist

Apply in Person

  1. The renew your practicing license as a Veterinary Specialist/ Consultant, the applicant has to visit the Kenya Veterinary Board offices to make the application.
  2. Here you will be issued with an Application Form-22 to fill and submit. This form can be obtained from the KVB offices or it can also be downloaded from their website
  3. The applicant has to make sure he or she has all the required documents that are required for this process to be successful. A list of these documents can be found under the "Required Documents" section of this page or at KVB registration requirements page.
  4. Submit the completed application form and required documents.
  5. Proceed to pay the appropriate fees and submit the payment receipt. The amount of fees to be paid can be found under the "Fees" section of this page or at KVB registration fees page.
  6. The Board shall contact the specialist college concerning the applicant and wait for their recommendation.
  7. Following a successful recommendation from the specialist college the board may make an approval of the application and issue the applicant with a certificate of registration.
  8. This process takes an average of 7 working days

  • For one to be registered as a Veterinary Specialist/ Consultant, the following requirements must be met:-
  1. Veterinary Specialist license
  2. Academic Certificates
  3. Testimonials from college
  4. Registration certificates and practice license as a veterinary surgeon.
  5. A Filled in application form-22 for registration.
  6. Paid application fee receipt.

EligibilityEdit

  • A Veterinary Specialist/ Consultant with a valid registration certificate and practicing license.

FeesEdit

  • Practicing license fee Ksh 20,000/= payable every five years
  • Application fees can be paid directly to Cooperative Bank, Westlands Branch, Ac no 01141151721300 and banking slip presented to KVB. Include your name in the narrative.

ValidityEdit

  • The registration validity is valid for five years.

Need for the DocumentEdit

  • A person registered by the Board as specialist or consultant shall use the titles with a client or colleague.
  • A person shall not hold himself or any other person as having expertise they cannot substantiate, or refer to himself or any other person as a ‘specialist’, where in doing so would be misleading or amount to misrepresentation.
  • One cannot operate with an expired practicing license.

  • The Kenya Veterinary Board (KVB) as currently constituted is created by the new Veterinary Surgeons’ and Veterinary Para-professionals (VSVP) Act No. 29 of 2011 which was assented to by the President of the Republic of Kenya on 16th September 2011 and took effect on 2nd December 2011 after gazettement (Legal Notice No. 183 of 28-11-2011) by the Minister for Livestock Development.
  • The Board was launched on 14th February 2012 in accordance with the provisions of Section 4 (1) of the VSVP Act. The VSVP Act, which now provides for registration of both Veterinary surgeons and Veterinary Para-professionals, replaced the almost 60 year old Veterinary Surgeons’ Act (Cap 366) of 1953, which provided for registration of Veterinary Surgeons only.
